Hey xbikers, I've recently released the beta of a drivetrain compatibility tool and I thought it would be right up the xbiking alley. I would love to share it for thoughts and feedback.

The main event at this time is the drivetrain compatibility chart generator ('Drivetrains’ tab). It’s a single-page applet designed for helping a range of users, from first-time bike mechanics through to project bike enthusiasts, complete the compatibility picture for drivetrains. Unlike traditional compatibility charts it’s interactive. It’s designed to work across brands/models and incorporate a few known modifications, both of which I think are a big value-add for punters looking for a drivetrain to suit their unique needs.

I’ve built a ’Show Example’ option into the ‘General’ toolbar which is a great way to get started to see what the tool does.

There are a plenty of known bugs, limitations and data to enter, but at this point I’m really hoping to get feedback to validate the core idea and course-correct if needed. I’ve been playing around with additional interactive pages for brakes, bottom brackets and gearing ratio comparisons. I’m really excited by what the site could look like if I can get the fit right.

Any thoughts on the concept, feedback and feature requests are most welcome. Thanks so much for checking it out!

Do I need to fill out the form in order? For example can I put my derailleur in and then preview parts for cassettes?

  2. Looks helpful, I always had a hard time knowing what parts were compatible with my aging groupsets.
It’s good to know that there’s several modern drop in replacements for stuff that’s 10-20 years old at this point (for 10 speed, at least).
