Exactly two weeks ago we crossed the border from Peru into Ecuador at La Balsa. We were warned about the steep, difficult gravel entrance, but we took this route anyway. At the small migration office, we had our passports stamped and were welcomed into the new country. The next day we cycled to Palanda. The road had paved and unpaved sections. The surrounding nature was breathtaking with warm and humid air. The descent on the gravel was very pleasant, but it burned our brakes. We rested that night in a hostel. The following day we passed through Vilcabamba, a village famous for its longevity and very popular among foreign tourists, but we did not stay there, instead, we went all the way to Loja city.
