  1. To anyone interested about this time period "Babylon Berlin" TV series is a must to watch TV.
    "A metropolis in turmoil.
From economy to culture, politics to the underworld–everything is in the grip of radical change.
Speculation and inflation are already tearing away at the foundations of the still-young Weimar Republic.
Growing poverty and unemployment stand in stark contrast to the excesses and indulgence of the city's nightlife and its overflowing creative energy."

  2. Technical question: How do you manage to keep the phone in the foreground, Indy and Sparty in the mid-ground, and the posters in the background all in sharp focus?

  3. The speech had a strange accent., like when a Dutch tries to imitate a German accent. The o in "Rote Fahne" should not be same sound as the ö in "Goebbels". Perhaps the minister grew up speaking Dutch as his first language, and it showed in the moment of agitation.

  4. Awww man. It's just depressing how few people know this part of history well, and how they fail to see so many of the same patterns today… It's rather frightening how familiar this all feels, isn't it?

Bravo for shining light on what I believe is the most important part if history: How a democracy falls.

  5. I’ve just never understood WHY the Weimar government allowed political parties to have their own militias!?! There can only EVER be one sanctioned law enforcement body. Anything else just brings chaos and violence. You are doing an excellent job of showing that chaos in this new series. I forget your researcher for this series but remember from one of your get-togethers how he described getting very interesting looks doing research as he was checking out all these newspapers and other material! Well done I must say-to all of the Time Ghost family!

  6. We all know how evil comunists are, but that description given by the Nazi paper is not how we go about educating a populace on why communism is evil. Dehumanizing anyone is how we get wars against humanity

  7. One of the main problem was the deep hate between social-democrats and communists dating back to the events of 1919. So no alliance on the left to fight the nazis was possible. On the other hand some conservative upper class gamblers thought that they could control Hitler and the Nazis and use them for their own interests. These guys manged at the end to convince old Hindenburg and overruled his concerns. The von Papen and Hugenberg totally underestimated the dynamic, brutality and ruthlessness of the Nazis.Their concept miserably failed and they were crushed like bugs.

  8. 5:59 wait wait wait. Are you telling me these newspapers have actual text on them? I don't speak german but apparently historians have started two world wars and Indy Neidell is missing!
