    1. That’s the broken end of the cable. You would need to buy a whole new dropper post cable with the same end on it

This is not a knarp. A knarp has a screw in it to add an “end” to a cable segment that lacks one. IIRC, they were used to shorten the split cables that actuate a bmx brake cable detangler, originally the Odyssey Gyro.

This is a barrel nut. (Edit: actually, I think while “dropper post barrel nut” gets the point across, the other poster calling it a bushing is more correct, because an actual barrel nut is a fastener and is threaded inside. Regardless of what it is called, the below stands.)

**You can run a dropper just fine without one, however.** Just grease up the cable end. I have personal experience doing this for the past six months with a PNW post with no problems, after PNW support specifically suggested it after I forgot to tell them to send one with a warranty replacement actuator that exploded on me, losing the nut in the process. They sell them for $5 too but they told me not to bother, just grease it up, and so far so good. I have no reason to believe it wouldn’t work with any other post I’ve seen (OneUp, KS; never seen a Fox actuator).
