So I was driving through my estate today and came across a hard waste collection Infront of a property. Turns out the owner no longer wanted his Giant Trance and turns out it was probably for a good reason – or just CBF repairing.

So far the list of things to get it running again, apart from a service front to rear, is..
-Front gear selector/cabling has been removed. I'd dare say this was a personal reason.
-Rear derailleur has taken a good hit and is minced.
-Gears aren't the worst but could do with a swap.
-Chain got the best part of weathering outdoors.

So my question is..what's the recommendations on changing groupset? I realise it's a 2015 bike but would like to make a nice bike out of this. Something decent worth upgrading to? Or just keep everything as is and get a new rear derailleur?
If all goes well and how these recommendations go, I'll go ahead with it and look forward to getting back on a bike again!

I had that bike and it was great. I think it would still hold up quite well today. I wouldn’t invest crazy money in it but a few hundred dollars in a 1 x groupset would make it even better.

Personally, I would check the condition of the suspension before putting any money into it because servicing and parts for forks and shocks could cost a fair amount.

    2. 1x deore wide range narrow wide groupset. You can buy a cheap Amazon front ring and bolts rather than replacing the front cranks.

Perfect. You might need to consider a fork service and bleeding the brakes.

Free in terms of purchase price, yes, in terms of running costs of giving back the life to it, no so much. I would say it will need like 300 € to service everything. I would replace all the cables, chain, bleed the brakes, new tubes, service the forks, new brake pads, and probably a new chainring and cassette too.
