A little about Edβ¦.
Ed is an elite cyclist, 2019 British Hill Climb Champion and former Under 23 British RR Champion. He has raced as a Continental level Professional Rider for one of the most successful British cycling teams in Japan, Korea, Australia, Canada, Azerbaijan to name a few. He is also a public speaker, coach, and founded the on/offline cycling community, Backpedal. At the start of 2021, the Discord community began, and plonked many of Ed’s viewers in to a 550+ strong group of people that had many things in common. Not least wanting to explore the world and pedal their bikes faster!
Ed coaches lots of cyclists in the online community too! If you are interested, email [laverackcoaching@yahoo.com] for information on the 1-2-1 coaching package and training plans, of which there are many and flexible options to suit everyone!
Ed now prioritises having fun with my hard earned fitness and knowledge in the sport. Showcasing that maybe there is an alternative to racing for teams when you can race for yourself and your community of followers and brands. This YouTube channel is a docu-series highlighting what itβs like to be a cyclist in todayβs competitive age of sport.

Big fan of the overlay – wish I could set my Garmin up like that!
Brill ride Ed π (thanks for reminding me of my one and only time up there.)
I did col de la loze from the bottom this summer. Strava had only recorded 589 people riding up it. 95 people in my age group . Iβve been riding since 1978 and itβs the hardest climb I have ever done!
Fantastic, really enjoyed this video. Great ride. Like to see more like this, as i'm sure many others would.
Really enjoy the hill climbing videos, I found a hard climb near me yesterday, it was too hard for me, I ran out of gears and couldn't make it up. If anyone is up for a challenge and is in the area, it starts at shibden mill inn, up Blake hill and across to howes lane, it's not long (just over 1km) but it was too hard for me, I'd love to see a clip of someone completing it.
Great video Ed , live near it and still too nervous to do it π«£π
The golf ball is a radar for air traffic control
Ed, I love the video, but I don't agree with your comment about the tailwind not helping on the steeper sections. The first time I did it back in 92, I felt disappointed because the tailwind made it too easy. π
Nice. Algo algo
You are a beast πͺπͺ
You made that look so easy. Chapeau πππ
Hey Ed, what do you use for overlay software?
That's a flippin beautiful climb mate. You say you dropped off power at the end, and kinda bummed about it, but to me you paced that to perfection. You put the power down where it was needed: at the steep part. Everything after that is mostly 6% where the gains would've been much smaller with 30-40w more vs where you actually put that down. If you put it all out there, I don't think you should've done anything different pacing wise.
And then the speed you are doing on the 16% gradients is just π€― Hope we'll be able to do another vacation in the UK in a year or 2 (some other things planned first), and I'd love to ride this one, though I'm not sure I'll make it up there without stopping. >10% gradients are still well beyond 110% FTP for me.
When I see a rider in front of me I can't help adding more power to overtake them…
