It is harder than ever to deliver good, sustainable events in this country, as discussed a number of times in this podcast – from the very "top" Tour of Britain, to National Road and Circuit events to the grass roots of our sport and other disciplines within the greater umbrella of cycling. Events were cancelled due to the Tour of Britain, events which were in the calendar way before BC had to step in to make the Tour. These events may never come back to the scene, and with the additional pressures to create safe, secure races, I feel that it is often an impossible task on anyone to organise a race.
Having organised a number of multi-day races before as well as being on the scene for far too long… I really take my hat off to anyone trying to push this metaphorical water up hill. I know the troubles and pitfalls of putting on National B cycling races and too many circuit races to think about. It really is going to take something very special from the top to help create a more sustainable future for the races we love.
I have always been a big advocate for everything Owen has tried to achieve when organising his events, having helped out at a number of them, and can say 100% without a doubt if it wasn't for people like him trying to create a legacy the scene would truly be done.
