So I bought a Islabike Creig 24 for my lad off Facebook marketplace and the condition is worse than I expected. It will be his Christmas present.

The frame looks ok and i think it will clean up better than it is currently looks. With new tyres, grips, pedals (I already have decent ones of these) and chain, I think it should be sufficient for him.

I'm happy to replace worn items, but I'd rather not throw hundreds at the bike.

Cosmetic areas I'd like to address are the shock, which is covered in chips and scratches, and the rear derailleur which also looks scratched badly. Are there any techniques to make these look better?

I'm thinking of replacing the rusty fasteners and quick release fasteners.

The front sprocket looks worn, does the rear cassette also meed replacing?

Can one buy replacement grips for these twist shift gears?

I'd be keen to hear anyone's experience of a similar bike clean up.

    1. I’d get some cheap shimano hydraulic brakes, full set around £40.
New tyres and grips and remove reflectors and bottle cage and rest will just be a clean and shine up. Could get a chain pretty cheap.

Hope your lad loves it, good fathering 👍
