This was originally just me feckin’ about with a drone for the first time (DJI Mini 4), but Jarrier (a small town in Savoie in the French alps) is a pretty amazing – and not very well known – area for mountain biking, so I ended up creating a kind of overview of this route which I shall share below.
In hindsight, while the scenery and general environment for this route is incredible, it’s not the most incredible for mountain biking (a lot of “hike a bike” on the second half of the ascent, and the decent isn’t really fun – not much single track).
As alluded to, this was mainly me doing recon for another route, the goal being to see if the top of the ridge was mountain-bike-able (which it largely is = success), and so I will be going back soon to see if I can ascend from the other side of the mountain (from Saint Colomban des Villards), which looks like a much better climb, and then there is also a lot of single track on the way back down that side (going through the bike park / ski domain in Corbier – which should be way more fun / buttery).
The ultimate plan is to connect this to a bigger loop that takes me past the Glacier at St Sorlin, and all the way to Alpe de Huez and then back. Which should be incredible (the best mountain bike route ever created?), and so this is really the first step in that project.
I shall share more dramatised videos along the way! So please do subscribe for updates, and you can follow me on Strava below too.
