Question. I want to pick up 2 bikes to casually ride with my fiancé. Will almost exclusively be used on pavement and maybe occasionally on gravel. Only for quick rides around town or the neighborhood. Will these be fine? I feel like everyone says to buy used in this price range?

Reason I am asking is because I have a 15% off coupon and gift cards that will cover roughly half the total cost of the 2. But if they are going to be junk quality I don’t want to waste the money.

Would plan on buying in the box and putting together myself or have a shop do it.

Any functional bike that fits your body and your budget will work.

Your money will go further buying used. Do not attempt to assemble a bike if you don’t know what you’re doing.

    2. $400 is a lot for that. The real problem(s) with those are that they aren’t likely to be set up by someone who knows what they’re doing, and the components are unlikely to be very nice either. On paper, they should be ok, but setup is very important, especially with the cheap bikes.

If you were someone close to me, I’d say that you’d be better off buying used bikes, then taking them in for a service at a bike shop, but that is obviously more work that way.
