    1. Get a cardboard paper towel tube and have someone else do what you are doing. Take the tube and find the source of the noise.

      If it’s originating inside or at the edges of the frame where it attaches to your fork or stem, I would guess headset. Headset is tool intensive if it needs replacement (you can pull it apart easily to inspect it but removing and replacing requires a few specialist and expensive tools). Look on Youtube and find a video (try the Park Tool channel) showing how to pull it apart. Inspect the bearings and races and see if there is an obvious issue. If so, I would take it to the shop because of the price of the aforementioned tools.

      If it’s not originating in the head tube, tell us where it is coming from.
