Hi all,

I am currently rocking my Cube Nuroad EX with the stock wheelset (not great but does the job) and Tufo Thundero 44m tires. While I am super happy with this gravel setup, I want to start riding road as well. For that of course one expensive option is to just get a new road bike. However, some recommend just getting a second wheelset with road tires to put on your gravel bike for occasional road adventures. Does anyone have experience with that and done it? Was it worth it or did you just end up getting a second bike anyway? Biggest advantage that comes to my mind right now would obviously be the lesser cost and relative ease of swapping wheels. Disadvantages that come to mind would be that I would of course be limited to my 1×11 gearing for road cycling and the potential problems that might come with fitting a different set of wheels to the same bike. I'd love some input from you all.

    2. Yup I have two wheelsets, Fulcrum Rapid Red 500 with Cinturato Gravel H/M for gravel and Fulcrum Racing DB4 with Rubino Pro for road. Same rotors, but slightly different casettes (11-42 for road, 11-46 for gravel). Works pretty well overall.

Top speed is limited by the gearing, and yeah the geometry of the bike is very endurance, not racing road bike, but I have fun and can keep up with a few roadie friends on coffee rides.

At first I only got the road wheelset and kept the stock WTB wheels for gravel, but I had issues with brake calipers and shifting not being aligned, so I got the same brand gravel wheelset as well and offsets match so there’s no adjustments needed, maybe a little bit of a barrel adjustment.

It does make the bike lighter and faster on the road, so I’m quite happy with this solution, and you don’t wear out the gravel tires on the tarmac as much.
