    1. Absolutely, most men will never even do 300 watts for 20 mins fresh. When you put 20min @ 411w that far into a 130 mile ride, it sounds impossible.

    2. I think the overall higher speeds of the stages has faded out alot of the previous generation sprinters that were able to avg. much lower 180watts for most of the stage and then blow out so much higher 1700+ watts at the end for a sprint

    3. I can average just a hair over 300 watts for half an hour- maybe 40 minutes if Im really trying on my Peloton, but thats taking out any wind resistance or riding in a pack or line selection that Id encounter on my Tarmac. These guys are accomplishing herculean feats.

    4. 426W @6.3 W/kg = 68 kg or 150 lb

Beyond comprehension. That much power from so little weight.

Some other commenter threw out normal person doing 300W for 20โ€™. Youโ€™d have to have some genetics and train very hard to do even that assuming youโ€™re relatively thinโ€ฆ 165 lb. Someone that is athletic and 230 lb can generate more power, but too heavy to go up hill.

    5. Is it true that some riders average watts increase as the days go on in these โ€˜brutalโ€™ multi day tours๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

      Now that IS amazing!

    6. YOU NEED STEROIDS TO WIN TOUR OF FRANCE… LANCE ARMSTRONG SAID IT'S NOT POSSIBLE TO WIN THE TOUR WITHOUT STEROIDS, THAT THE REAL HEROES OF THE RACE ARE THOSE GUYS ON 60-70 PLACE ..!!

    7. Thank you Ollie to make it technical, without it we simple mortals would not understand what it actually takes, besides being young and able to take on the world in the most physical endurance endeavor we call cycling. Thatโ€™s where the love comes from, and we get to see beautiful places. Sounds like the ultimate win to me! Keep going with the technical stuff, iโ€™m qlso a nerd about this ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคœ๐Ÿคœ

    8. The importance of timing and tactics in cycling, by which you mean top class professional road racing – a very small part of bicycle use. They have no importance in leisure cycling, commuting, or touring for example.
