1979-81-ish. Those wheel reflectors are from that time. Then they changed to all white wheel reflectors that had a plastic half-turn fastener. And the 5speed collegiate was discontinued with only 3 speed or single speed available.
These old Schwinns will last forever if mildly maintained. Simple but quality parts. Not light or high performance, but reliable. I have a ’69 ‘Racer’, which despite the name is a single speed, coaster brake skinny tire cruiser. I garbage picked it in the early 90s as a kid, and then rediscovered it in my parents attic around 2010 and restored it. Still kicking.
