Just popped these 47s on my Crux heading into Big Sugar. I've never needed anything larger than a 42 for Texas Gravel but I'm getting on board the wide train. I think a 2.2 might go on this bike. I run a wide 1x sram crank with 46 or 48t and I'm thinking a race king might be a better choice, for the race at least.

    1. Someone said they tried 2.0 race kings on 25mm internal (weight weenies thread) and the tire hairs were rubbing, so I’m not sure I would run it, but it may be OK for a dry race.

    2. Width is good but you might want a chunkier tread. The bigs climbs aren’t super loose but there’s two or three short loose climbs that give people a lot of problems. What size of cassette do you have? 46t seems pretty big.

    3. Go bigger in the front. Nothing wrong with mixing tires. Mind you I’m not familiar with the territory of that race.

    4. Looks like heaps more room!! Was curious to see how 47’s looked in the crux. That would easily take 50mm/2” by the looks

Yeah man. I wouldn’t worry about going wider but something more aggressive for that race.

    6. Oh man. I have 42 cannonballs and a 42t elliptical with 11-40 on back. Now I feel like I may need to get something smaller up front.

    7. Ran Terreno Dry 45s last year and they were great…I like those pathfinder’s a lot but I wanted a little more tread.

    8. NWA was my stomping grounds until this summer. I rocked PFs for a lot of my riding which ended up being a decent mix of pavement, dirt, and gravel but if I were getting a tire specifically for this race I’d want something knobbier.

If you’re used to similar sharp, tough gravel like in NWA, you’ll be fine. If you come from a place where it doesn’t usually get chunky, punchy, loose or any combination of them, I’d def recommend something knobbier. Will make hairy sections much easier to get through faster and safer.

If I had these tires already on hand and I planned on riding them into the ground afterwards, just stick with the PF. If not, pick a knobby.

Whatever you do, ride a tough casing.
