Can I Cycle London to Exeter – Part 1
I recently handed in my notice at my job of just over 5 years. A mixture of wanting to be closer to home on a permanent basis and constantly feeling like I was abandoning my family.
Nothing out of the ordinary in most cases. How ever my job was based in London and I live in Cornwall.
Most people would probably get a bus, train or plane home, but that all seemed a little too easy.
For that reason I decided I was going to try and cycle from London to Newquay in just three days..
The mental clarity and self discovery I get from these adventures/challenges helps me to find day to day life easier. For a majority of my life and unknown to most I have had an ongoing wrestle with anxiety and depression that coupled with a constantly active and overthinking mind is more tiring than I can explain. Back in April of this year for the first time I reached out for professional help. I was guided over a few months with cognitive behavioural therapy. This lead me on a path to where I now regularly complete daily breathing exercises, cold water exposure and journalling (All stuff that in the past I thought was hocus pocus, hippy nonsense). Using these methods along with trying to see what my body is physically capable of has increased my self belief and reduced the huge amount of self doubt I had hanging above my head.
Social media is also becoming a tool for me rather than a drain by restlessly doom scrolling. I hope that as my social pages reach others, I will continue to make connections and find people going through similar so we can be there for each other. Anxiety and depression makes the world feel like a lonely place and whilst being alone can bring clarity and peace of mind, I feel it can also be addictive and damaging to the mind.
As a man I have always felt that I have to be tougher and stronger than the next person. Like I should carry the weight of the world on my shoulders and not make a sound about it, as that’s just what we have to do.
I now reflect on the things I have in life and know I am truly blessed to be where I am, who I am with and what the world has to offer. Somedays are tougher than others. As I slowly work on re-programming my mind. I have every bit of determination to make the most of what the world has to offer. I have every intention of being there for the people who truly matter.
If you feel like you are struggling just know that there is always someone there to listen. I am here to listen.
To say I under estimated the cycling challenge is a HUGE under statement 😂
For the record I’m not a regular cyclist and that began to show. Emotions came out and the going got rough.
I got to see some amazing parts of the country as I embarked on my ridiculous adventure.
I hope you get to watch and enjoy the upcoming episodes. 🚲❤️

You’ve had good practice in your years 👍
That’s definitely more practice on a bike than me, in my years 😂
