Looking to build up a set of WEAREONE Union rims. Noticed on the website that they say their rims must be built with Sapim spokes and nipples. Anyone build these rims with a different brand and have success?

    1. I would for sure go with the nipple recommendation. Spokes are up to you, but be warned, straight gauge spokes on a carbon wheel typically void the warranty.

I’m a fan of the Polyax shape, but if you’re only able to get DT their Prohead is a similar enough shape to be virtually indistinguishable.

For the spokes, it really doesn’t matter to the rim which brand you use. I have some things I like better about Sapim, but it’s not strong enough that I’ll not use a DT or other quality spoke.

    3. Sapim spokes/nipples will likely be the best choice for any carbon rim as long as they say straight spoke compatible.

    4. Sapim nipples are excellent. If you build with something else, We Are One could use that as a reason not to honour the warranty. Why take the risk?

I have no problem with any reputable brand of nipple, and don’t think the Polyax design is meaningfully different. But if We Are One insists you use them, there’s no reason not too. None of the the other brands on the market are better in any meaningful way either. Why mess with your warranty and the manufacturer specs?
