Wednesday 18th September 2024:

I took the Brompton on a train to Worcester today… although it turned out NOT to be a train! – Owing to a persistent fault with the points or signaling apparatus just outside Hereford, the trains to Birmingham were cancelled and Worcester is along that rail-route. The train company arranged for rail-replacement buses, – coaches in fact, to take passengers to Worcester, and poor Mr. Brompton had to ride in the luggage hold underneath.

The bike survived the journeys there and back though and performed very well during my visit to Worcester. I’m loving the new 39 tooth chainring!

Once there, I had a great ride from Foregate Street Station up to Worcester Racecourse, which adjoins the River Severn, and then rode down along the riverside path to Diglis Lock, which is the start of the Worcester & Birmingham Canal.

After going up past the 4th lock, I headed East, back into town. Along the trip, I encountered loads of swans, seagulls, boats, and, as a special treat for me, I met two Border Terriers – my favourite dogs!

I hope you’ll enjoy the video – which includes my commentary on a race at the racecourse!

    Cheers,

    Jeff

    1. Morning Jeff, you had a nice bit of weather Wednesday for the ride, shame about the long bus trip though. Makes you appreciate trains even more.
Some tidy looking boats there, rubbing salt in the wound for you seeing the red one.
The first Border in the video looked exactly like the one I walk just before she had a recent haircut, little hairy bear!!

    2. Hi Jeff, thanks for the lovely vlog always appreciated and enjoyable.
When I saw the red Narrowboat on the intro, I thought "at last" Gladys is in the water 😢 disappointed she wasn't 😢
However she can't be long now before she is Chugging along with you at the Tiller ?
Each week I keep my fingers crossed 🤞 for you as I suppose the other Subscribers do.
Take care and stay safe out there 😊

    3. Hi Jeff. Sorry you had to endure the replacement buses. Always a longer journey due to road conditions etc, but they got you there and back which is what mattered.

Looks like you had another enjoyable out Jeff and the weather looked good too. Worcester is lovely place and I have to agree with you about the building and the brickwork on the railway viaduct and the road bridge going over the river, architectural skills at their best.

Nice views of the canal and the marina, did you cycle along that short jetty next to Rachel? A brave man if you did. I'm always envious of those who own canal side properties. My dream would be to have a garden leading down to canal, a private mooring and a not too small narrowboat to use in the summer months. I live in hope.

By the way, you got my mouth watering at the thought of seeing a nice tray of cod and chips…..you blighter.

See you in the next video, hopefully with some positive news on Gladys. You should have passed 900 subscribers by then 🤞 Take care Jeff.

    4. Hi Jeff. great video about Worcester and the river and canal. Thanks for the shout out on the video but unfortunately I wasn't there on Wednesday. My usual day at Diglis locks is on a Monday. I did get the satire on the racecourse race. I have read your previous comment about Gladys's delivery and hope that the engine can be repatriated and fitted for you. Fingers crossed!

    5. Have you got your own following in the duck, goose and swan communities?

And can anyone answer this, why has the painted signage of the ‘Diglis Hotel’, got a full stop after the ‘l’ in the hotel word?

    6. Strange vlog very mixed not really sure what it's all about……. Train, racecourse, river, canal, bridges, bikes, just quick clips of not a lot really. But at least you had a go so well done for that.

    7. Great vlog as always. Under the skin I can’t imagine the frustration at not being on your new boat. In my early days search I’m most definitely avoiding looking at that make now. As you and another vlogger have the same experience. Every best wish and let’s hope it’s genuine good news re Gladys. Every best wish 🎉
