I use SPD pedals. They have solid metal cleats and are pretty much bulletproof (and recessed, too, which makes them last even longer). I ride 10,000+ km a year and haven’t had to replace the cleats on my current shoes once.
SPD-SL has always seemed unnecessary and overrated to me.

I just did this to my gear too! Mine were almost that bad….but I had started having issues clipping in, so it was time to replace! Good reminder about an often forgotten wear item!

If you let them go too far they can fail catastrophically while you’re riding which can be dangerous. Ask me how I know.

I think you can get one more ride out of them!
Those aren’t clips, maybe that’s your problem.
