Working up the courage to tackle replacing the corroded crank on a bike that’s been sitting in the garage. Has a square taper crank. Is that gap on the non drive side normal? If not, how would I go about addressing it?
Yes. A gap like that on the non-drive side of a square tapered bottom bracket is normal.

Square taper bracket, it’s normal.
On this style of BB, the BB has a spindle built-in to it which sticks out of either side for the cranks to mount on

Unless that gap wasn’t that big before, it is fine. Some do have smaller gaps, but what’s important is that it’s securely in place and not working itself loose.

Looks normal and cranky from what we can see is fine. I wouldn’t replace unless there’s a clear issue

As long as you’re sure you’ve tightened the crank well enough (please don’t overtighten these, you might crack the crank), that is a gap expected within square taper bottom brackets.
