First post. Just to say to people who are in my position, if you're worried about what people will think. Fuck em.
I'm 40. Always been a big lad. I'm 6ft 1 and seriously overweight. Turns out I have a tumour in my brain which hasn't helped things.

I decided last month that it's now or never to do something to help me focus on losing as much weight as I can. I tried getting back into aggressive inline last year as i used to skate all day every day in my youth…second session at the indoor park broke 3 ribs trying a simple 360, something I wouldn't have thought twice about back in the day. Lost time off work, couldn't do things with my daughter ended up gaining more weight. Just sucked.

I Have always admired bmx and flatland / freestyle. So I looked for an old frame I could build up myself on a budget but also getting half decent used parts and started my journey a week ago yesterday.
On the first day I drove to a carpark of the skate park and couldn't get out the car for an hour out of fear of being judged, laughed at etc.
It doesn't matter how big and mean you look, your mind will win every time.
I finally thought fuck em. Got my bike out the car, put my headphones in and honestly, set myself free.
I'm addicted. I've ridden every day this week. I'm crap, ankles are killing me and I've got bruises all over my legs and I love it.
I'm eating clean now to help me be better on my bike! I've lost 5kg in 7 days (a lot of that will be water weight etc) and i feel really positve. It's things like this reddit and the wholesome community of bmx that has inspired me.
So if you're in the position I was a week ago and wondering whether it's worth the effort at the age / size you're at. Do it.
It won't be easy and it won't look pretty but the rewards are worth fighting all those preconceived thoughts you're having.

    You got this 👊🏻❤️
