This was my first experience bikepacking an whilst it was only one night it was brilliant.

The route brought us out of Newcastle center past the angel of the north then through a few towns before long stretches of Greenway, country roads then came with some nice villages in between. The final climb was the steepest incline I've rode up and it was a real slog.

We stayed in the YHA in Osmotherly, a great village with a village shop and a couple of pubs to get tea, it couldn't have been a better stop off.

Day 2 was very rural, up and down for the first half going through quiet villages looking out like a meerkat for a coffee shop. After Easingwald the route steadied into York, a pint at Brew York to celebrate.

My friend and I are not avid cyclists he did it on a mountain bike me a hybrid so he gets the award for extra effort.

Overall a brilliant route with very little traffic exposure.

I hope this inspires other beginners and I'm now looking for ideas for the next one.

(Time on photos is time in motion, we made a good few stops)
