The tyre was extremely worn anyway, the bottom of the tyre should be round, not flat. I bet it’s was well past the wear indicators.

It also looks completely and utterly perished. Probably why it’s disintegrated rather than abraded away.

Your tire is not only very very worn, it’s also rotten to some degree. This tyre should have been replaced a while ago, it’s well past it’s usable life both in wear as in age.
