  1. I wear basically any kind of pants, except when I’ve got loose cargos. I tie the right side up with a hair tie that I steal from my family members

  2. Currently some cheap jeans from target, in the past mostly Levi’s (damn do I miss their commuter pants). Since we’re heading into fall I’m thinking of picking up either chrome, or if my wallet permits it, mission workshop pants to see how they holdup.

Which part of your jeans are getting destroyed?

  3. Cuff up the right leg, or buy/make a strap for the right leg (if the chain interference is a problem). Google “bike pants strap” for options from rockbros to Brooks.

If you’re blowing out the crotch of your jeans due to saddle wear… Good luck. Jeans just don’t last (for me, at least. I’m a big guy). I’ve torn, repaired, and destroyed the crotch of everything from high quality selvedge to Levi’s Commuter jeans. (No Mission Workshop though… I don’t have the cash for that experiment).
The only thing that lasts for me is a thinner pant with lots of lycra in it, like the 686 everywhere pants.

  4. Potato-Vegetable on

Beat up skinny jeans or chino shorts usually.

I try not to wear jeans that don’t have blowout when I ride, and I save my blow out ones to ride in , this keeping my nice jeans nice and my old jeans old. I have no shame about the crotch holes.

  5. delicate10drills on

Lucky’s over LLBean longjohns. 10’s of k’s of miles and no holes. No stink, good in cold temps and warm temps, dry pretty quick for denim-looking material, stretchy-enough. Chain stain washes out pretty easy.

  6. Shorts when it is warm, bike specific pants (windproof, not lycra) when it gets colder. I have a few pairs of Baleaf pants I bought on Amazon that are good.

  7. Dead stock Levi commuters. There’s also a uk based company called swrve that makes decent cycling jeans

  8. In the summertime since I ride 28 miles (14 1-way) I inevitable sweat through on my commute, so I wear bike shorts and shower at the office. as it gets colder (I live in Southeast MI) i transition to carpenter pants and flannel lined jeans as needed since I ride rain or shine and snow be darned. Last year I only took 1 week off when they didnt plow a major street for a week. (7-mile)

  9. Fucked my gi pants cuz they got stuck in the chain. Lesson learned, if I’m commuting with pants I’ll fold the bottom
