  1. Bike is a Charged Cooker Maxi from probably 2015, got it for $100 today. Guy told me it was a large frame and upon arrival noticed it was a medium which is a bit small for me but i went for it anyways. Currently i have 2 full suspension bikes already. Mainly bought this for a winter bike and so i can do easy trails and not get bored.

Already threw the seat away, put on some real pedals and ripped off the rusty kickstand.

Gonna throw out the cable pull shit brakes and order some 2 piston hydraulic shimano brakes from aliexpress. Also ordered a 35mm clamp x 70mm reach stem so i can get rid of these stupid short cut bars with too much backsweep and throw on a real bar with 35mm rise which should help the bike fit a little better.

It has a 2x 9 drive train and i was considering replacing for a 1x. (Could probably just go 1x up front and be happy) also thinking about putting a cheap external routed dropper on it. Tires are tubless ready and id just need to tape the rims and wrestle them on so also considering that. Idk if these upgrades are worthwhile for a $100 beater though.

    Thoughts?

  2. After riding it a bit, I’d start with contact points, then look at converting to tubeless.

  3. Upgrade the rider. As you add miles and bond with the bike, upgrades will become clearer. But may require several iterations. I bought a bike last April; I have changed gear ratios twice, am on the third stem, swapped tires, and on second set of petals. I did a 60 mile ride yesterday. I feel like I finally have the bike I love. I needed trial and error to learn what my bike needed. Getting to know what fits you will guide this exciting process. Enjoy and happy trails.
