The most beautiful area for road cycling: The Dolomites Mountains. Cycling in the Dolomites is paradise 100%. Try these Dolomites cycling routes: Passo Furcia ( Furcia Pass ), Passo Valparola ( Valparola Pass) and the 3 routes of the Maratona dles Dolomites – the most beautiful amateur cycling race in the world.
You can call The Maratona in many ways, all of them are accepted: Maratona dles Dolomites, Maratona delle Dolomiti, Maratona Dolomites or Maratona Dolomiti. Keep in mind that the original name is the Ladin language one ( Maratona dles Dolomites). Ladin is a language mainly spoken in the Dolomite Mountains in Northern Italy in the provinces of South Tyrol.
This year we’ve returned to the Dolomites Mountains. Ana has raced the short course of Maratona and I climbed Furcia Pass and Valparola Pass.
La Maratona delle Dolomiti (in Italian) has 3 routes to chose from:
– the short course (Sella Ronda – 55km, 1780m altitude gain )) that climbs to Passo Campolongo ( Campolongo Pass ) , Passo Pordoi ( Pordoi Pass ), Passo Sella (Sella Pass) and Passo Gardena ( Gardena Pass )
– the medium course ( 106km, 3130m altitude gain ) contains the short one + another climb to Campolongo Pass and Valparola Pass ( Passo Valparola).
– the long course ( 138km, 4230m altitude gain ) contains the medium course + Passo Giau added before Valparola Pass.
Check the video to see the routes that I’ve used and to visit with us the Maratona dles Dolomites Sport Expo, to pick up the race package and see what’s inside and get to the start and finish line in Corvara.
We’ve chosed to have our accomodation in the beautiful town of Brunico, just half hour drive away from Corvara. It’s the perfect place for climbing Furcia Pass (a nice 50km loop climbing Furcia from the East side and descending on the West one).
– Furcia Pass climb from Valdaora (East side) has 9.5km, 7.5 % average slope and 15% max slope. 711 m of altitude gain to reach 1789m.
Here is the route that i’ve used to climb Furcia Pass: https://www.strava.com/activities/9369068633/
– Valparola Pass from Cassiano has: 13.9 km, 5.7 % average slope and 794m of altitude gain to reach 2192m.
Here is the route that I’ve used to climb Valparola Pass: https://www.strava.com/activities/9373439487
