After years of riding on used road bikes and my current 30 lb gravel bike, I've decided to treat myself to my first very nice road bike. After visiting a couple local bike shops, I've narrowed it down to a couple of bikes – the BMC Teammachine SLR Four and Cervelo Soloist 105 Di2. I ride about 15-30 miles on the weekdays with longer 50-100 mile rides on the weekends.

Things that I was looking for:

    • Lightweight. My rides consist of a lot of climbs (I live in a very hilly area so it would be anywhere from 2000-6000 ft of climbing) and I definitely feel it on my current 30 lb bike. Looking online, it appears that the Teammachine weights about 18.7 lbs and the Soloist about 16.5 lbs (feel free to correct me if these numbers don't seem right)
    • More aggressive geometry. I plan to keep my gravel bike for more endurance/relaxed rides. This new bike would be for going fast on group rides and possibly racing.
    • Electronic shifting. Both of the bikes have Shimano 105 Di2.

I have test rode both bikes and felt good on both, although this was just a very short ride so I'd love to hear experiences from people who have taken them on longer rides.

    BMC Teammachine ($4200 pretax + $150 for assembly): https://us.bmc-switzerland.com/collections/road-racing-bikes-teammachine-slr/products/teammachine-slr-four-bikes-bmc-24-10611-003

    • My current LBS is a BMC dealer but unfortunately does not have the bike in my size. I would need to order it online to be delivered to my LBS, and there is a $150 assembly fee (which I'm happy to support my LBS).

    Cervelo Soloist Di2 ($5200 pretax): https://www.cervelo.com/en-US/bikes/soloist

    • Offered at another LBS that is closer to where I live. I have not had much experience with this LBS outside of stopping by to test ride the bike, but I have heard good things overall.
