🐢Thank you for joining us today, as we take an exciting immersive walk around the historical city of Leipzig, the second largest City in the district of Saxony. Leipzig is a very beautiful city to explore and enjoy, and we really enjoyed our time here. We especially enjoyed to walk along the old streets, and absorbed the sights and sounds from this vibrant and busy city.

For the first time we visit a new city, we like to wander aimlessly around for a while, with no maps and with no real plan, we just like to get lost and discover the city our own way.

🌍 Leipzig is an independent city and the most populous city in the Free State of Saxony with 628,718 inhabitants (according to the population register on 31 December 2023). In 2021, it ranked eighth in the list of major cities in Germany. For Central Germany, it is a historic centre of business, trade and transport, administration, culture and education, as well as currently a centre for the “creative scene” and an important trade fair and university city.

After the granting of city rights and market privileges around 1165, Leipzig developed into an important trading centre during the German Eastern Settlement. Leipzig’s tradition as an important trade fair location in Central Europe with one of the oldest trade fairs in the world dates back to 1190 and was closely linked to Leipzig’s long-standing role as an international centre of the fur trade. During the National Socialist era, Leipzig officially bore the honorary city title of Reichsmessestadt from 1937 to 1945. The city is a historic centre of book printing and trade. In addition, Leipzig is home to one of the oldest universities and the oldest universities for both commerce and music in Germany. Leipzig has a great musical tradition, which goes back above all to the work of Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and is based, among other things, on the importance of the Gewandhaus Orchestra and the St. Thomas Choir.
