After a day of exploring Budapest, we had to start riding again. We were riding east the whole trip so far, but now it’s time to change direction. The plan was to ride south and cross into a country I never visited before, Serbia. The day started off pretty badly as my drone landed on top of our hotel in Budapest. I lost connection to it, so it activated the return to home feature but instead of landing on the big parking lot in front of the hotel where I took off, it landed on the roof. Thankfully the receptionist helped me by calling someone to bring it back down. Luckily the hotel had a flat roof, so it was not that big of a problem to get the drone. We then continued through Budapest and the Hungarian countryside towards the border. We stopped at a supermarket to get some salami, a gas station to fill up the bikes, and a restaurant to eat lunch. I was pretty nervous when we got to the border because it’s been years since I left the EU, it was also the first real border crossing with my own vehicle. Thankfully everything was fine on both sides of the border and we continued through the countryside of Vojvodina to Novi Sad. We checked in the most interesting place I stayed at so far, the Petrovaradin fortress. I made a reservation online in Hungary already because I wouldn’t be able to use mobile data without a dedicated SIM card in Serbia as the country is not in the EU. The fortress is located directly by the Danube river. We started by the river in Budapest and ended by the same river in Serbia.
