I am resto moding a Monark Blå Blixen (Special Racer) frame with a Shimano 105 (R7000) groupset.

I’m using a claw derailleur hanger. I know these aren’t ideal for modern 11-speed setups, but I’m wondering if I can make it work?

My question: Is it possible to set up Shimano 105 to shift smoothly and reliably with a claw derailleur hanger? Or should I expect constant issues with alignment and shifting?

For context, I’ve already tackled other challenges like bottom bracket compatibility, dropout spacing, and brake reach. The claw hanger is clamped on tight and isn’t interfering with the cassette. Since I haven’t ordered all the parts yet, I’m wondering if this build is worth continuing.

I love this frame and really want to make it work, but I’m worried about whether it will function properly in the end. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

    1. Have a look at page 32 and 33 from shimano’s frame requirement documentation

      https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0336/9713/files/Shimano_2020-2021_Tech_doc_1.pdf?v=1686852156

also Check out page 30 of this SRAM road frame fit document

      https://www.sram.com/globalassets/document-hierarchy/frame-fit-specifications/road/2023-road-frame-fit-specifications-rev-c.pdf

What you have done looks like it will leave the rear derailleur too far forward and too low to function properly. But you’ve already come this far and there is no reason not to put a chain on there and give it a go!

edit; also, because this claw is typically for closer-to-vertical dropouts, Theta angle of the claw will be close to 0deg when it should be 25-30deg (see shimano doc page 33 “C-019” )
