After six months of bike ownership, I'd decided to treat myself to a wheel upgrade, but the deciding process took six months 😂

Stock wheels were DT Swiss P1800.

I'd tested a range of DT Swiss ARC1100 wheels in Girona and Roval Alpinists from a long time LBS.

In the end, I'd decided to go with an independent wheel builder who offered a potentially lighter wheel set and for a better price.

The DT Swiss ARC1100 were FAST! I'd discovered speed I didn't know I was capable of and even felt decent and very responsive on the famous Rocacorba Girona climb.

The Roval Alpinists felt a bit meh. I was still more efficient over my stock wheels but they were missing the wow looks and fast feeling for me. I don't doubt they are good wheels but they just didn't interest me. The upside was the LBS is a walk away and I'd already bought two bikes from them before during their original shed days and we are former residential neighbours.

What I will say about the DT Swiss 50mm Vs Strada 45mm front wheels is the difference in cross winds. The 50mm was definitely less stable, and pretty obvious descending Rocacorba. I was still the fastest descender that day but that's just me!

The 45mm doesn't really seem to suffer from any cross winds; surprisingly rarely. On a VERY windy day yes compared to the stock 23mm.
