Who says councils don’t have a sense of humour.

Yes online businesses have effected the High St, but when you look at this madness from Rotherham council you will see they are the biggest culprits of the destruction. A single carriageway for both directions of traffic, if a car comes towards you in the other direction you have to pull into the cycle lane. I could hardly find a business trading along this stretch and hardly a car parked along the road. They claim you can park for up to 10 hrs, but on the payment machine its 2 hours.

  1. I have no idea how those markings work for cars, never seen anything like it? what happens if there's cars going in both directions but also, the cycle lanes have cyclists in them, who has the right of way?

  2. Nobody cycles on any of it, all the way to Magna. It's made the road narrower and the raised concrete divider on Sheffield rd prevents the road sweeper……sweeping the cycle lane! So it's gathering flint, turnings and glass.

    Rotherham renaissance.

Reopen the steel works and industry and you might actually see people cycling to work 👍

  3. Can't think of a reason to cycle in to Rotherham! Wouldn't feel safe locking me bike up anywhere, even in Sheff! I don't know if there is any safe/secure cycle lock up areas?

  4. So it isn't a cycle lane at all. As a cyclist i would not feel safe cycling down that mess stuck in the middle of the road. This is verging on criminal, the idea of a cycle lane is to seperate it from the traffic.

  5. Exactly the same is happening in Doncaster with cycle lanes that no one ever uses. What the big plan with these city councils building all these cycle lanes. Someone at the councils should do research before making these lanes. Great vid again Tim.

  6. They have to put the cycle lanes in first , Then take your car . Pay per mile is coming and Petrol and Deilsel is going. The Cycle lanes will be very well used in the future. The planners know what they are doing.

  7. Cycle lanes were funded by Central Govt and it's worth a Google for those interested. According to one website:-

'Far more people will be cycling and walking thanks to plans to boost greener, active transport, launched today (9 May 2020) by Transport Secretary Grant  Shapps .

Pop-up bike lanes with protected space for cycling, wider pavements, safer junctions, and cycle and bus-only corridors will be created in England within weeks as part of a £250 million emergency active travel fund – the first stage of a £2 billion investment…

Following unprecedented levels of walking and cycling across the UK during the pandemic, the plans will help encourage more people to choose alternatives to public transport when they need to travel, making healthier habits easier and helping make sure the road, bus and rail networks are ready to respond to future increases in demand.

The government will fund and work with local authorities across the country to help make it easier for people to use bikes to get around – including Greater Manchester, which wants to create 150 miles of protected cycle track, and Transport for London, which plans a “bike Tube” network above Underground lines.'

It's all part of net zero agenda. Councils wee supposed to work with the Govt appointed Cycling Csar to ensure best use of funding in deciding routes. I believe cash had to be spent on Lanes by edict.

    On yer bikes now.

  8. I worked at T.C Harrison there in 86 and it was thriving. Sheffield road was very busy both with traffic and people. They’ve done the same on broom road where there’s cycle lanes both sides and narrowed the road to vehicles.
