The incident described did not occur during MTB riding, however I think it may be useful information here as someone may be using this fork as an MTB fork.
Last week when coming back home at night I saw two bikers on the ground. One got up quickly and picked up his bike (in one piece) and the other was writhing in pain on the ground. His bikes fork was split in two cleanly. His fork crown just split in two and popped off the steering tube.
As the sane guy explained later, the crash wasn't even head on. They missed each other only for the now more injured guy, swirve back and hit hit him near the rear triangle base. So it wasn't even a straight heads on impact.
Important part here they both were riding illegal here, electric bikes with acceleration lever (not sure of the name in eng). Which allows you to accelerate without pedalling at all, just like on a scooter. So they both were probably going around 40km/h.
To me it looks like a fracture, something I would not like to see in any of my bikes (mtb or road). I would like to expect these part to just deform or bend. Especially from such a wide spread company as suntour. Just imagine something like this happening during an off-road ride, on a rock bump, tree, or even an otherwise a "safe" crash.
Check your gear for any cracks, I will be sure to check mine.
