Jack takes a ride on the new SwiftyGo GT500: the first electric scooter that you can legally buy, own and ride on public roads in the UK, to find out if it’s any good and understand how Swifty have achieved legalisation while all other e-scooters are still banned.

  1. If you're going to go to the hassle of doing your CBT, fill out the V5, check the MOT, insure it and all that other jazz with a motor vehicle, you might as well spend a little more and get a proper moped with two seats, built-in locking, and a storage box. The cost and bureaucracy defeats the point of having something ultra light and compact, and the vast majority will continue riding non road legal scooters without number plates because the fuzz aren't going to stop them.

  2. A car keeps you dry in our wet climate; it has more wheels for stability…. if you're going to be out in the elements, why not go for an e-bike or moped?

  3. it is cool – however, you can get an electric moped for about 2k – one that you can actually sit on. If you need to have the licence and stuff anyway you might as well go for that.

  4. Also, an L1e class vehicle cannot legally be ridden on a cycle/footpath. It must be used on the road. So at 0:20, you are being rather misleading by showing it being ridden on what looks like a cycleway/footpath.
I'm all for personal e-transport (I use a DIY ebike to commute 13 km each way), but please get it right! 🙂

  5. I’ve ridden this thing and it’s awesome. Consider trying it before judging it! I’ve been riding mopeds and motorcycles for +15 years and found this thing to feel super stable, and frankly really fun to ride. I’d prefer it to a regular moped for a commute across London, it might sound weird but standing up is just nicer on a busy street. I also like being able to step off, push around an obstacle and step back on super easy vs a moped which is heavy and awkward to push.

  6. I haven’t seen one of these new Swifty electric scooters yet but I have been riding one of their Swifty Zero kick scooters for over a year (858 miles thus far) and I love it. As someone who was involved in various kinds of motor racing as a kid (go karts, motorcycles, sports cars) I am pretty familiar with what it takes to build high quality, dialed in, vehicles and Swifty has gone the extra mile with all their scooters. Built of high quality materials and designed by people who know what they are doing Swifty scooters are simply the best!

  7. I would advise anyone before buying anything electric eg existing e mopeds to check insurance costs first.
That goes for cars and even the Citroen Ami which in the UK you WILL need a full car licence to get insurance despite the fact it's classed as a moped in France etc.
Yes the rules also say here that it can be driven on a full moped licence but the insurance companies think otherwise and will decline insurance.
    Just try getting insurance first.

  8. @tivvy-xf4kz
Are you absolutely sure about all of that? It seems very unlikely that our government are actually making life easier for us bikers.
    1) No need for L plates?
    2) Being able to carry a pillion? 🤔
    Etc Etc???????

  9. As a vlog? you did quite well but it's up against the likes of a folding Brompton bike. They fold smaller so may be taken on buses, trains and fit in cars better and can use bike lanes and carry more. Granted not quite as fast but doesn't need registering, insurance and all the rest.

  10. These are not new!! I owned 3 Helio Ego scooters between 2003 – 2009. They are virtually identical but with a seat.
This new iteration of the Helio Ego is hugely overpriced and mediocre at best.
In order to get people off the illegal scooters and on to legal ones, there needs to be an incentive, which at this point in time can only be price.
The police are absurdly lax in policing illegal scooters, so for 90% of the population there’s no incentive NOT to break the law and ride an illegal scooter. Halfords sell them, and the prices are so cheap for what you get, you can run them into the ground, and then, when they start to fail simply a new one.
I have a full motorcycle license and I’m itching to get a Zero motorbike, but I cant imagine a scenario when I’d be tempted to this scooter for 3K+
Once you factor in Insurance it’s a very pricey proposition.
When I rode the Helio Ego scooters, insurance was a nightmare as 99% of the companies didnt know what it was. it was also a nightmare to get MOT’s done, the garages told me to go a bicycle shop!
I foresee a lot of issues with this scooter, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.

  11. "right now, I'm riding a privately owned electric scooter, on the road, in the UK, legally" ……. says he, as he rides it illegally along a public footpath amongst pedestrians!

  12. e-roller is safer as a motobike… motobike get easier stolen… both ridiculous jokes… Standing on a roller and having a crash… good luck with that flying onto the streets concrete 😂😂 e-roller are a nice catch for thieves too…😅

  13. as long my 15kg scooter that i can carry onto my 3rd floor flat isn’t legally to drive, every debate about upcoming laws and fancy expensive gadgets doesn’t mean any good useful news to me.Its just a waste of time…

  14. Every policeman in the land will pull you over if he sees you riding that. It might be legal, but he’ll thoroughly investigate. With all the stops, it might be quicker just to buy a normal bike.

  15. This is ridiculous. There are at least two other eScooters available from Amazon now that have a similar spec, full suspension, indicators, 28mph, 25/30 miles range, etc. The downsides with this one are (1) Pneumatic tyres – these things tend to puncture. (2) Price £3,500 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really???????? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( I have had an 800w eScooter with all the same features, range, speed, soft ride with all round suspension, climbs hills, etc and it was £550. So even if this one you're promoting is sturdier (?) a price of £3,500 is a total rip off because they've been through the DVSA. I could buy a decent motorbike, motor scooter or car for less than that and the 2nd hand value of this will be pennies, it will be unsellable. Insanity.

  16. 4 months of searching for an electric ebike or scooter I find this channel. Youtube is amazing at hiding useful content and prioritising dumb pointless search results.

  17. It is very interesting to see an actual road-legal e-scooter, I have been very curious to see how one would look like. Though as many people have already said in the comments, at this point it is more convenient to just get a e-moped.

  18. Why not go the whole hog and fit a seat for the rider, then perhaps another seat for his misus, then maybe a side car for the sprog, then a towbar for the trailer camper .
    . . .

  19. i would stick to a cheap car, thanks. For that thing to have to be registered and then lose all the benefits a cycle has is ridiculous.

  20. You don't need a cbt if you have grandfather rights. And you didn't just do a cbt as where's your l plate? Electric bikes (over 15mph) and scooters are not legal here because of rip off Britain. Government cant stand the fact of not paying to use the roads regardless of the environment. Buy a cheap mtb put a 1000watt kit on it and travel around for near free.
