I rode from the Pacific Ocean at Morro Bay, California to Lake Michigan at Manitowoc, Wisconsin this summer. I was initially concerned that the first few days would be unpleasantly trafficky, but I was able to work out a very nice, low-traffic route. I rode out of Morro Bay on a hilly, mostly-dirt road, then through wine country, then onto California Highway 58, which was very empty and low-traffic.
