The Telegraph conducted a two-hour count between 7.45am and 9.45am for the rush hour into the city and another count between 5pm and 7pm of those heading south of the River Thames.

In total, 1,032 cyclists were required to stop at red traffic lights outside
St Thomas’s Hospital. However, a total of 559 cyclists – 302 in the morning and 257 in the evening – ignored the red lights.

    1. Bottom line is, we need to start charging cyclists to be on the roads. Visable tag, like we used to have with the tax disc so at a glance the officers can tell who is upto date. Then they need to make people read and agree to terms of cycling on the road like – don't go through red lights etc. Anyone in breach can get their tag/bike confiscated.

Walking is healthier than cycling and if we have to accomodate cyclists, the least they can do is pay their fair share.

    2. Police need to crack down on this disgusting behaviour! Even as a cyclist myself I completely agree that cyclist should be enforced to have number plates for this reason.

    3. I'm a cyclist. This is sad to see but to be quite frank no matter what method of transportation, car, bike, pedestrian, scooter, etc. is used, there will always be bad apples because there are always bad people. there are far worse car drivers who often kill people

    4. Who would have thought it? Governments have empowered these people, with the help of TV personalities. Of course this was going to happen, and anyone who thinks differently doesn't have a basic understanding of human nature.

    5. At least they’re using the cycle lanes, in Leeds £millions spent on new cycle lanes but cyclists are still using pedestrian crossings & footpaths also cycling contra flow on one way streets. Mainly takeaway delivery cyclists many using electric bikes which are capable of 70mph . Also run through red lights

    6. This is a total beatup.
Between 2016-2021 there were 2551 pedestrians killed in the UK. Of which only 15 involved cycles, the other 2536 involved motor vehicles. So pedestrians in the UK are 170 times more likely to killed by a motor vehicle than a cycle. Where are the Telegraphs headlines saying motor vehicles are dangerous?

    7. I guess they didn't count how many people were killed or injured during this study because….there weren't any. THAT'S why 2000kg cars need strict enforcement, but 10kg bikes need far less.

    8. A surprising amount of cyclist believe traffic rules don't apply to them. Sometimes act like pedestrians, sometimes like cars, sometimes with utter disregard for any rule.
