Mountain Bike Adventure on Monte Perone with Elba MTB

Join me on an intense mountain biking adventure on Monte Perone, located on the stunning west side of Elba Island in Tuscany, Italy.

This group ride was organized by Elba MTB, who provided a guide and a van to lift us to the top, close to the beginning of some epic trails. The ride started with a boost, but the challenges quickly piled on.

The ride was intense, featuring difficult and technical trails, including some black levels that pushed us all to our limits. With long climbs, steep descents, and rocky passages, this long day was full of adrenaline and challenges.

I have to admit, the group was much stronger, younger, and fitter than I am. It was hard to keep up, and at times I found myself alone, following my own pace, getting lost a few times, and struggling to find the right lines without the other riders in sight. I was basically bumbling down the trails. This ride was tougher and less supportive than my previous experiences with Elba MTB, but it was still an unforgettable adventure.

The warm weather added to the difficulty, and many of us, including myself, suffered crashes along the way. Thankfully, nothing too serious, but the fatigue by the end was overwhelming. One rider even bonked completely — proving just how demanding this ride was.

In the end, my rear brake failed, and the tires had no grip left. Thankfully, Elba MTB quickly provided a replacement bike for the next days rides.
