Hi all,

I got this frame from a buddy for and I threw on the Shimano Cues and the Velo Orange handlebars to change my grip positions 'cause I'm a new gravel/MTB cyclist figuring out my gearing and cadence, but would like to go on more gravel rides and tour! I have a rear rack, and I got a pair of the Ortlieb sport panniers (the smaller ones that hold a total capacity of 25 lbs).

Can I get bag suggestions for good weight distribution? I am looking for gear of good value; can't quite afford top-of-the-line but if you say it is, then it is. But if I can use my money for things that last a long time, that'd be great.

Also my legs are short and this frame is definitely on the smaller side. I want to believe I can fit a frame bag in there but I understand if it's not ideal/possible. Should I get the water cages on my fork?

Thank you all.

  1. Front rack, a pair of rhinowalk bag ( Aliexpress), they’re good and half the price of euro brand.

A little top tube bag, a phone support.

Sometimes for touring, a lot of peoples find of front bag or a basket useful, i find it too.

Sick whip! This year in the 900 series (1992/3?) is killer because you can pop out the headset and run an 1-1/8″ Threadless and a Modern, Surly Troll Fork or equivalent. Not very Common for Lugged Steel Framed ATBs, and it was made in USA!

A simple Sunlite Rack that mounts to the brake bosses up front is an easy way to mount a basket (or not! )and get around that pesky lack of lowrider mounts on the stock fork. I am a far of trying to balance weight between front and rear, but your kit and experience will determine what works best for you.

Maybe a small seat pack to carry repair kit and spare tube (I appreciate having my tool stuff in a distinct bag to keep from digging thru my other bags if I have a roadside mechanical.)

Have fun out there, that bike will last a long time!
