Great video to eat my breakfast to sitting in my office dreaming of future adventures. Do you think you'll miss the lower gearing afforded to you by chain ring and cassette gearing? I've heard that if you want to go super low on the Rohloff you void their warranty. Cheers!
How are you, mate? Nice trip you're doing! I am planning on doing a fatbike trip from Germany to Beijing starting in summer and I am totally looking forward to it! If you want to pedal through the Allgäu just north of the Alps, let me know. We can offer a place to stay, do laundry etc in Isny, Germany. If you are into Mountainbiking, there are awesome trails to ride here, which we can take you to….! Let me know, if you're interested. I'll have exams in some weeks and some other things going on, so we would have to check beforehand to find a time slot. Cheers, Thomas 🙂
Thanks for the NOT detailed insights into the Rolhof Hub Gear! Might have been more engaging and informative than explaining that the mountainous areas of Europe get cold in winter for bike-packers and campers. As fat bikes continue to gain in popularity, innovations like geared hub drives used by a world traveler, And reviewed in detail, would be an outstanding contribution to the world’s knowledge base. And, serve to further this niche sports cycling endeavor.
Hi i have surly troll which has similar dropouts like your bike. Rohloff and surly recommends ts axel rohloff. Does quick release model makes problem when touring. Thank you.
For a "worst case" Rohloff application, consider my e fattie Surly Wednesday. Worst case, as in working it HARD (1300 watts and very low gearing) and so far so good. Any human pedal input would be nothing compared to the way I use mine, pedaling plus e power, up very steep rocky trails in a very low gear. Rohloffs rock! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMMhTUvn93E
From the title, I thought this would be a video about the Rohloff experience. All I learned was that you got a Rohloff because you had broken your chain 20 times (really???)

Great video and I don't blame you at all for wanting to take winter off. I don't even like running when it's cold outside.
Where are you now mate?
