Please forgive the non-Brompton bike. It’s a nice enough bike if you get to know it.

Having seen some recent comments lamenting the cost of Fahrer front racks and shipping to the US I wanted to show what $20 can get you. For size reference the basket is exactly the width of a paper grocery bag with about 1.5 inches to spare up front.

This is a Rhinowalk adapter ($12) zip-tied to a wire and wood “organizer” basket ($8) I found in the housewares section of a store nearby. If the adapter were steel instead of aluminum I could weld it together. Bolting on a wood plate is another option. The zip ties work, but there is an annoying vibration sound while going over rough road which I might be able to fix with some foam or fabric between the metal parts. Also, I’m going to have to take some pliers to the adapter to bend it so it fits on the bracket better. It’s just slightly too tight as it is now.

Honestly it’s a bit jank but I’m not mad at this thing. Sure it’s not as sturdy as a purpose made product and it won’t hold as much weight, but it’s a functional quick release basket for $20.
