Hello all, I am new here and to bike touring. I am looking to buy a bike specifically for touring. Most of the touring will be done on paved surfaces. From what I am finding there are some obvious choices like the Surly disc trucker or the Kona sutra.

I found this bike on sale and wondered if anyone had any experience with it or thoughts: REI Co-op ADV1.1 (link below). The components look decent and the price is very attractive…

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  1. I do not have that bike, but for the price it’s a fairly complete package. Comes out-of-the-box with good gearing and components, racks, and steel frame that will probably last for decades. If you are new to touring and don’t want to spend a lot at this point, this is a good starting point – you can pick up some decent bags and panniers with the savings. REI has a generous warranty/service program and multiple locations. Go for it and get out there!
