Dang, I didn't even ride this ride and I STILL come here for your content! Love the style–don't change a thing. Especially the Hurricane shout outs 😂😂 Thanks, Colin!
tactical race tonight. went flat out at the start and managed to have a good lead for 1 minute and 6 seconds before the usual winners flew past me faster than someone looking for the toilet after a bad curry.
Got caught at around 10km by grandparic and gr4nik and couldnt shake them for a while . eventually managed a few short attacks with gr4 and ric got left behind.
Gr4 was with me until around the 16k mark but fell back about 2 metres on a gradient change – so I started to launch lots of 10 second efforts. Thought that I had it in the bag but wasn't paying attention and roeboe caught me at the top of the final climb. We swapped places a few times over the final 1500m but hadn't realised the descent gradient for the final 400m which took us to max speed, so pointless sprinting
i am probably on the bike 4 or 5 days a week. I find that when i cycle every day my Garmin tells me that i am over training. I also like to row (as in indoor rowing on a machine – not row as in argue) but I will also mix in some basic of the bike core and cardio work which could be anything from using a weighted hoop, messing about with the nunchakus, kettle bells etc.
I used to run a lot but developed some achilles problems due to overuse of the treadmill during a winter season (180km + per week ) and when i got the chance to run outside again my pace had dropped by well over a minute per km. Kind of lost the motivation and dropped from twice a day to maybe 4 or 5 times a week.
Nowadays i pretty much dont run at all (big change to a few years ago when 15km would be a warmup before any proper efforts).
btw – today's audio was the 2013 vuelta, however the narration got a little boring so I swapped it over to the 2015 TDF – stage 20 Alpe d' Huez. chris froome from his team sky days being paced by ritchie porte whilst the likes of contador, quintana, nibali and valverde all battling to catch up.
Another first class production Colin great work, blazing fast start the hang on sharing the load, front group rotated well but the split was always on the cards. Ended up with two great riders until the flying finish. Look forward to next weeks race team.
For riders keen to improve power the key is “Get off the bike”, the bike is particularly ill suited to develop functional strength the limited range of movement prevents key muscle development. Kettlebell work Bulgarian Split squats single leg squats etc are great. Anything that targets the posterior chain and core is key. As for riding a mix of workouts, the challenge routes a couple of races for top end work. Will also recommend some Yoga Pilates stretching to keep those hips from tightening up. Most of all enjoy.
