  1. Bob Ross experience in Muncie and seven pillars nature recreation area a little east of Peru.

Pretty niche, but the Limberlost State Historic Site and Nature Preserve just south of Fort Wayne is pretty cool.

A woman named Gene Stratton Porter was sort of the JK Rowling of the early 20th century – she wrote tons of international best-selling novels all sort of loosely based on her childhood adventures in the Limberlost Swamp there.

People started making movies based on her books, but she didn’t like any of them so she moved to LA and became the first woman to own and run a major successful production studio.

Her old home is the historic site there and they’ve rewilded pieces of the swamp.

Again, pretty niche, but my mom loved the books as a kid and insisted we go last time she visited me in Chicago. It was pretty cool and beautiful if you’re a nature lover!

  3. Dayton local here! Not sure what route you’re taking but USBR 25 from Piqua to Dayton is all trail riding, so that’s probably quite good. If you go that way, there’s some excellent food in Troy (Speakeasy Miso is the best Ramen you’ll find in Ohio), and you can stop at the Rip Rap Shake Shack for a calorie dense treat.

West is the one direction from town that we don’t have a ton of trails, but you can take the Wolf Creek trail into town from about 20 miles out.

There’s also an adventurecycling route that goes roughly where you’re going, so that might have some advice too.

EDIT: I just realized I assumed you’re starting in Chicago since I read left to right :P. I assume if you’re starting in Dayton you know all this already.

  4. If you’re going through Peru, there’s 2 circus museums. You can camp at one of them if you’re down with the clown.
