Got it about two weeks ago. Just seemed like the metal/paint was wearing and a couple teeth were shorter. New to cycling and want to learn my own mechanics and repairs. Just wanted to figure out if I should contact the shop.

Did you buy it new or used?

If used, previous rider may have put in some serious miles.

  2. Your chain lube is full of dirt, and it’s accelerating your wear. I would remove your chain and clean the gears with a rag and some degreaser. When I lube my chain, I run it through the gears and then wipe off the excess oil that attracts dirt. Everyone has their own favorite chain lube, this is the stuff I use on my race bikes. https://scctech.bike/products/ride-it-slick

Did you put lubricant in your chain? Most Trek Stores don’t put lubricant on new chain bikes so most likely you have been riding it with the chain factory grease which is not lubricant. Clean your drivetrain and put lubricant. I would recommend getting a good oil based lubricant like Silca Synergetic.

  4. Looks like the front derailuer has been rubbing on the front chainring? See how the little ring isn’t chewed up, I had this happen to a Domane once when the front derailleur slipped out of alignment/down.
