I’m Danish, and have been it for maaany years. Never heard the sugar frase, but it could from another area than where I Live.
Those views of Haarlem look beautiful, especially along the canal. I ‘m so happy that your experience going back was so positive. Those bikes lanes and bike wagons for kids reminds me a lot of Berlin, that similarly has a wonderful biking infrastructure, and we saw so many parents biking their small kids to school and back home again in those cargo bikes, and even the postal carriers were delivering mail on bikes! Very cool! And lastly, my Dad, who was German, used to say “ you are not made of sugar” whenever it was raining and we didn’t want to go out! So a nice reminder of that attitude- just dress for the weather and get outdoors!
Nice to see the river view at ‘de donkere Spaarne’. Behind the spot you stood at, I lived for many years on a ship.
We will love Canadians forever due to the many Canadians that died for our freedom. Always feel welcome in The Netherlands!
