Hi everyone !

I am prepping for my first bike touring trip in 7 days, from London to the west coast of France (La Rochelle) through a bike path called the "Velo Francette", around 700km over 6 days. We will have Panniers but will be traveling fairly lightly as we'll be sleeping in inns/B&Bs (no tents / sleeping gear to carry).

I would really appreciate some tyre selection advice!

After doing some research for tyres I got two sets of 35c Continental Urbans based on the review from rolling resistance which states they are fast rolling / puncture resistant and adapted for touring. However taking a look at the route it seems to be made up of only around 60% pavement with the rest looking like somewhat compact dirt paths.

The Continental Urbans look pretty slick and, as the name suggests, designed for urban use. Would this be an issue on the terrain I will be riding? Should I send these tyres back and opt for something else ? I have seen Gravelking SS come up a fair bit but am fairly clueless here.

    Much appreciated!

    1. Slick is not a big problem if it is not muddy, but rolling resistance ignores suspension losses, often bigger. Can you fit bigger tires so you can ride with lower pressure? I always go as wide as will fit.

Thin (I do not mean narrow) and supple is nice, but puncture risk requires compromising.
