Welcome to Andlau,
Andlau, a small town of just over 1,700 inhabitants, stretches out at the mouth of a Vosges valley and over the Piedmont vineyards. Close to the border with Germany, surrounded by the municipalities of Mittelbergheim, Bernardvillé, Eichhoffen and Le Hohwald, Andlau is located 3 km southwest of Barr, the largest town nearby.
For many visitors, Andlau is a step at a time on: the Alsace Wine Route, the Alsace Vineyard Cycle Route (EuroVelo 5), the GR 5 long-distance hiking trail, and finally the Alsatian part of the Chemin de Santiago de Compostela.
While walking in Andlau, you will encounter a city which developed around the princely abbey, founded in 880 by Richarde, wife of the Carolingian Charles the Fat. Having become a stronghold of the Andlau family, the town adopted its coat of arms.
Andlau is a jewel box containing precious jewels with its range of multifaceted tourist treasures, architectural, historical or natural.
Andlau is home to a remarkable heritage: Sainte Richarde abbey, the castles of Spesbourg and Haut-Andlau, numerous Renaissance houses made of stone and half-timbered wood… Romanesque sculpture is in the foreground.
In the heart of the town stands a Renaissance style building called “La Seigneurie”. This former residence of the lords of Andlau, built in 1582, hosts a Heritage Interpretation Center -CIP-. The latter highlights the features of excellence of the local and regional heritage: built, religious and wine-growing. In this place, our territory is in motion with manipulations of models, demonstrations by artisans, courses and workshops, tastings and even guided tours. The landscapes, know-how, talents and delicacies of our region are highlighted and highlighted.
Andlau would not be what it is without its famous vineyards, and its large forests with multiple possibilities for walks and hikes.
