The British four pushed Australia all the way there, with the gap between the two teams hovering at around a tenth of a second for nearly the entire race until Ethan Hayter almost crashed in the very last lap when pushing himself to the absolute extreme.
He did brilliantly to stay upright, all things considered, but that scuppered Britain’s chances of pinching the gold.
Silver it is.
That cycling silver is Team GB’s 1,000th medal at the summer and winter Olympic Games since the modern era began in 1896.
