I'm planning a 3 month bike tour next fall (thinking aug-oct) to Japan, the big plan is to cycle north to south. This will be my third bike tour to Japan, so I feel I have a good understanding of what I'm getting my self into. I'm planning the tour in different stages, and I'm finished with the first iteration of Hokkaido. I'm also done with Tohoku region, but I'll make a separate post in a couple of days for that.

Even though I want to do the length of Japan I'm not sure how much time I really need for everything I'm planning. I'm thinking about 4 weeks in Hokkaido, and with my estimate daily average 80km and 800m elevation my first plan isn't really feasible. I also want some rest days, every fifth day maybe, and time to do some hikes. So we'll see. I'm specifically looking for feedback on route choice, things to see, and places to camp, but feedback on route length and other suggestion are welcome!

Anyway, I've split my route into three parts to make it load faster into RideWithGPS (POI are written in Norwegian).

Starting of by flying into Wakkanai, and following the east coast down to the eastern most point before heading into the land.

After visiting the Ainu museum I'm reversing the HokkaidoWilds bikepack route, with a detour to the highest mountain in Hokkaido, and finishing in Sapporo.

After Sapporo I'm heading south, and the following the coast around, maybe a ferry trip to Okushira.

I also want to visit the island Rishri, and hike Rishirifuji. The plan is to start the whole trip with that.
