Live from Paris as the 2024 Olympics come to a spectacular end

THE Olympic 2024 medal table has been revealed with just two events remaining of the Paris games.

Team GB have recorded a valiant effort of 65 medals, including 14 golds, during the summer showdown.

Neah Evans completed Team GB’s efforts in the velodrome this afternoon for the Women’s Omnium, but unfortunately was unable to fight her way into contention for a medal.

That means the Brits end seventh in the standings, tallying their lowest return of golds in 20 YEARS.

GB won 20 golds in Tokyo, 27 in Rio, 29 at London 2012 and 19 at the 2008 Games in Beijing.

The Olympics in Athens in 2004 was the last time Team GB won fewer than in Paris, with a total of nine gold medals.

However, this year’s total of 65 is the same number they achieved at London 2012 and one more than the 64 they earned in Tokyo.

Britain’s athletes still did the country proud, pulling off some memorable medal moments throughout the two weeks.

Team USA walk away as the top team in Paris with a whopping 40 gold medals to their name and a total of 126 podium finishes.

Their Women’s Basketball win over France secured them a 40th gold to put them top of the standings.

The US had the same number of gold medals as China, but just finished ahead of the Chinese thanks to a superior medal total – 126 to China’s 91.

Japan finished in third place behind China with 20 gold medals and a total tally of 45.

Britain’s 14 gold medals came across 11 different sports with Rowing being our most successful event.

First place finishes in the Lightweight Women’s Double Sculls, the Women’s Quadruple Sculls and the Men’s Eight event added three gold medals to the tally.

Equestian was the nation’s second most successful sport after Team GB won gold in both the Eventing Team and Jumping Team events.

Elsewhere there were some incredible moments in the athletics for the British athletes.

Some nine events saw the nation bag silver or bronze while Golden Girl Keely Hodgkinson took top prize in the Women’s 800m.

Alex Yee’s incredible comeback in the Men’s Individual Triathlon also won gold, while Bryony Page captured the hearts of the nation with her heroics to win the Women’s Trampoline Gymnastics.

The bikes proved fruitful for Team GB too with the Women’s Team Sprint earning a gold on the track and Thomas Pidcock’s sensational late turnaround in the Men’s Cross-country Mountain Biking helping secure a second cycling gold.
